Earth Day is observed on April 22 in the United States and on that day or the day of the spring equinox everywhere else.<br>Sen. Gaylord Nelson of Wisconsin was motivated to organise a national holiday to unite the environmental movement by environmental activity in the 1960s. On April 22, 1970, Nelson organised the inaugural Earth Day with the aid of Denis Hayes, a doctoral student at Harvard University, who helped attendees understand the value of environmental preservation. The event, which drew 20 million people from all over the country, increased support for clean air legislation.<br>The Earth Day objective is now supported year-round by the Earth Day Network (EDN), which unites more than 20,000 partners and organisations in 190 countries. This objective is based on the idea that everyone has a moral right to a healthy, sustainable environment, regardless of their colour, gender, money, or location. This goal is pursued by the Earth Day Network through action, advocacy, and public policy efforts. Each year, more than 1 billion people participate in these initiatives, making them one of the biggest public, nonreligious events in the world.<br>The Earth Day Network works towards the following main objectives:<br><br>Expand the definition of "environment" to encompass topics like climate change, green jobs, renewable energy, green schools, and environmental curriculum; Diversify the movement by offering possibilities for civic engagement at the local, state, national, and international levels globally. EDN frequently collaborates with low-income communities to include their voices and concerns in the movement because they understand that climate change has the earliest and greatest impact on our most vulnerable populations.<br>Create chances for all individuals to participate actively in the environmental movement by collaborating with partner organisations to mobilise communities.<br>core issues for Earth Day<br><br>These objectives guide Earth Day celebrations and initiatives around the globe, which can be categorised into the following main themes.<br><br>Promoting: Advocates encourage people and groups to meet with political officials to talk about environmental issues. The website "Million Acts of Green," for instance, promotes users to modify their lifestyles by composting, lowering their carbon footprint, or recycling their electronic waste.<br><br>Supporters of the cause educate the public about the effects of climate change, how humans contribute to them, and strategies for slowing the phenomena.
